H2 OS (Hydrogen OS) UI released for OnePlus One

In April, OxygenOS release for the global variants of the Oneplus One device and now finally the company has unveiled the one, dubbed as H2 OS (HydrogenOS) UI for Oneplus One, it is only available to beta testers or developers.

This ROM is already in English which was obvious as all other Chinese ROMs come in English too. If you cannot identify English during the set up (as it is written in Chinese, it is the last option.

Disclaimer :- This HydrogenOS ROM is from the closed beta which is going on in China so its not recommended as a daily driver. This is also a modified version so try it if you are willing to take the risks.

HydrogenOS is based on Android 5.0.2, with a cool look and material design different from previous OxygenOS UI. Its is the combination of both the flat look combined a number of most popular Chinese ROMs  like MIUI, ColorOS and others feature but it is also based on Android Lollipop’s UI with Material Design. Overall, it has smooth and responsive UI than Cyanogen 11S or 12S.

Here are some of the features of HydrogenOS :-

These are just a few of the features of HydrogenOS which could be getting from the screenshots on OnePlus’s forum. The company has also stated that gestures in the present HydrogenOS ROM will not be working and also users will find there is no music application. It seems like a bummer, but developers are working on it and shall be fixed with future updates on this ROM.

Upgrade your Oneplus One with HydrogenOS

Follow these instructions for installing the HydrogenOS in Oneplus One:-

1. First of all Download HydrogenOS.zip ROM.
2. Backup of all files and data on your OnePlus device, as installing a new ROM will lead to wiping out of all previously saved data. So backup it first.
3. Go to Settings > Security and enable installation from unknown sources.Fastboot and ADB should be installed in your phone at this point.
4. You need to flash a recovery onto your device by booting into fastboot mode. This can be done by holding down the power button and the volume up button. Once the fastboot logo comes up, you need to connect your device to a Pc.
5. You then need to unzip the HydrogenOS zip file and boot into recovery. This can be done by holding down the volume down key and the power button.
6. Next, you need to do a factory reset. This will lead to a memory wipe, which is why you need to have your data backed up to begin with.
7. Once you’ve done the factory reset, you need to go to install and find the zip file. Confirm flash to flash HydrogenOS onto your device.
8. Once the flash succeeds, you can reboot the device, which will take you to the new HydrogenOS on your device.

You can use OxygenOS kernels with this rom and can use Xposed Framework. OnePlus One’s own ROMs offer a very smooth and light UI, keeping it functional yet visually appealing. OnePlus is now all set to ship its handsets with its native OS in the future.
